Description
Mode of Action
Profenofos is an organophosphate insecticide that acts as an acetylcholinesterase inhibitor. Acetylcholinesterase is an enzyme responsible for breaking down the neurotransmitter acetylcholine in the nervous system of insects. By inhibiting this enzyme, profenofos disrupts the normal function of acetylcholine and leads to the accumulation of the neurotransmitter. This build-up overstimulates the insect’s nervous system, causing paralysis and ultimately leading to its death. Cypermethrin, on the other hand, is a synthetic pyrethroid insecticide. It affects the insect’s nervous system by prolonging the opening of sodium channels in nerve cells. This leads to repetitive nerve firing and disrupts the normal transmission of nerve impulses. As a result, the insect experiences paralysis and eventually succumbs to the effects of cypermethrin.
