Beauveria bassiana
Beauveria bassiana is a naturally occurring entomopathogenic fungus used as a biological insecticide for effective management of sap-sucking and soft-bodied insect pests. It is commonly found in soil and works by infecting target insects such as whiteflies, aphids, and thrips, causing white muscadine disease and leading to pest death through internal colonization.
When spores come in contact with the pest, they germinate and penetrate through the insect cuticle via spiracles. The fungus then multiplies inside the insect body, releasing toxins and consuming nutrients, which ultimately results in pest mortality. Its effectiveness is enhanced under warm and humid conditions.
