Clodinafop-Propargyl targets acetyl-CoA carboxylase (ACCase), an enzyme critical for fatty acid synthesis in grassy weeds. When sprayed on the foliage of weeds, the active ingredient is absorbed and translocated upward through the xylem. This disrupts fatty acid production, which is essential for cell membrane formation and growth. As a result, weeds stop growing, exhibit necrosis, and eventually die. The herbicide is selective, acting on grass weeds while being safe for wheat, and is most effective when applied at early post-emergence stages of the weeds.
