Oxyfluorfen 20% DF works by inhibiting the protoporphyrinogen oxidase (PPO) enzyme. This enzyme is essential for the synthesis of chlorophyll in plants. When Oxyfluorfen is applied to target plants, it is absorbed through the foliage and translocated within the plant. Once inside the plant, it interacts with the PPO enzyme, disrupting its normal functioning. The PPO enzyme plays a crucial role in the production of chlorophyll, which is necessary for photosynthesis and the plant’s energy production. By inhibiting the PPO enzyme, Oxyfluorfen disrupts chlorophyll synthesis, leading to a buildup of toxic intermediates known as porphyrins. These porphyrins cause oxidative damage to cell membranes and other plant tissues, ultimately resulting in the death of the targeted weeds.
