Spinosad 2.5% SC is a biological insecticide derived from the naturally occurring soil microorganism Saccharopolyspora spinosa through fermentation. It is highly effective against a range of lepidopteran pests. Spinosad combines high insecticidal activity with an excellent environmental and safety profile, making it suitable for Integrated Pest Management (IPM) programs.
Spinosad acts primarily on the insect nervous system, targeting nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs) and GABA-gated ion channels. This dual action causes continuous nervous stimulation, resulting in tremors, paralysis, and ultimately death of the target insects.
Its unique neurotoxic mode of action helps control pests resistant to conventional insecticides, while remaining safe for beneficial insects such as bees and parasitoids.
