Spinosad 45% SC is a biological insecticide. It is naturally derived from the fermentation of the actinomycete Saccharopolyspora spinosa. It is extensively used for the control of resistant Helicoverpa in cotton, fruit borer and thrips on chillies, and pod borer on red gram.
Spinosad 45% SC stimulates the nervous system of the insect, causing involuntary muscle contractions, prostration with tremors, and, eventually, paralysis. These effects are consistent with nicotinic acetylcholine receptor activation via a mechanism that is clearly novel and distinct among known insecticidal compounds.
