Description

Zinc Phosphide 80% w/w is an inorganic compound used as a rodenticide to control rodent infestations in agricultural fields and storage areas. It appears as a dark grey or black crystalline powder, insoluble in water and organic solvents. When exposed to moisture or ingested by rodents, it reacts with stomach acids to release phosphine gas — a highly toxic compound that causes respiratory failure and death.

Application Method:

Start with four to five days of pre baiting by placing plain food baits near burrows and active rat paths. Use items like wheat, rice, potato pieces, or dry fish. Identify the bait points where consumption is high.

When over seventy five percent of the plain bait is eaten, prepare poison bait by mixing one part zinc phosphide with ten parts bait. Replace the plain bait at the same points for two to three days. Stop baiting for about two weeks, then repeat pre baiting with a different food base followed by poison baiting. Avoid direct hand contact during preparation.

Dose – Use 100 gm for  the bait.

Upon ingestion, Zinc Phosphide reacts with the acidic conditions in the rodent’s stomach, releasing phosphine gas. The gas affects the respiratory and nervous systems, leading to paralysis and death. It is typically formulated into bait pellets or treated grains that attract rodents for effective control.
