Description

Fipronil 2.92% w/w Emulsifiable Concentrate is a specialised formulation developed for reliable termite control in buildings. It is used during both pre construction and post construction stages to create a continuous chemical barrier around structural foundations. This barrier limits the movement of termite colonies and protects the building from internal and external infestation.

The formulation contains fipronil as the active ingredient. Fipronil belongs to the phenylpyrazole group and has a strong affinity for soil particles. This property helps the treatment remain effective for a longer period once it binds to the treated soil layers. Owing to this persistence and its targeted action on termites, this grade is widely preferred for structural protection in residential, commercial, and public buildings.

Direction of Use

Fipronil 2.92% w/w EC should be diluted to a 0.25% active concentration. This is prepared by mixing 100 ml of the formulation in 1 litre of clean water.

Pre Construction Treatment

  • Apply the emulsion uniformly at every stage of soil treatment using a hand sprayer or watering can.
  • Treat the bottom and sides of foundation pits up to thirty centimetres at five litres per square metre.
  • Treat backfill soil in contact with the foundation at seven point five litres per square metre on each side.
  • Begin treatment for RCC foundations fifty centimetres below ground level at seven point five litres per square metre.
  • Treat the consolidated plinth filling at five litres per square metre before laying the sand bed.
  • For the external perimeter, rod the soil at fifteen centimetre spacing to a depth of thirty centimetres and apply seven point five litres per square metre.
  • Treat the soil under the apron area at five litres per square metre.

Post Construction Treatment

  • Rod the soil along the external perimeter at fifteen centimetre spacing and treat at seven point five litres per square metre.
  • Treat soil below the apron area at five litres per square metre.
  • For internal floors, drill twelve millimetre holes at the wall and floor junction at thirty centimetre intervals, inject one litre of solution per hole, and seal afterwards.
  • For masonry voids, drill angled holes at thirty centimetre spacing, fill with the chemical solution till refusal, and seal.
  • If upper floors show infestation, treat the ground floor soil as described above to cut the source of entry.

Recommended Application Equipment

Hand operated knapsack sprayers or foot sprayers provide uniform application and are suitable for all stages of treatment.

Fipronil affects the central nervous system of termites by blocking the gamma aminobutyric acid regulated chloride channels. When the chemical blocks these channels, the nerve cells lose the ability to regulate impulses. This produces continuous excitation within the nervous system, which eventually leads to loss of coordination, paralysis, and death. Termites encounter the chemical as they tunnel through the treated soil, which gradually wipes out the colony.
