Fipronil 5% SC is a new generation insecticide from the Phenyl Pyrazole family. Fipronil’s site of action distinguishes it from most commercial insecticides. Target site specificity exists between insects and mammals, with Fipronil exhibiting tighter binding in the insect GABA chloride channel than in mammals, enabling useful selective toxicity. It has both contact and ingestion activity, but ingestion is more effective. Fipronil lacks the rapid knockdown effect associated with some insecticides, and insect mortality may appear to be moderately slow. However, intermediate responses, such as feeding cessation, may be observed soon after treatment. In general, residual control after foliar application is effective.  It has demonstrated a demonstrable plant growth enhancement (PGE) effect in a variety of crops and it is also an effective thoricide.
